Cortexa

An IQ-style reasoning test for iPhone

What it is

Six kinds of reasoning, one honest score. The test is free, the score is free, and the worked explanation for every question is free — including the ones you got wrong.

Six kinds of thinking

Pattern recognition, numerical, verbal, logical, spatial and abstract reasoning. You get a score for each, so you can see the shape of how you think rather than one flat number.

A score that shows its working

Cortexa does not count correct answers. Every question carries a measured difficulty, and the score is estimated from which questions you got right, not how many. A hard item you solved counts for more than an easy one you didn't.

You are shown a likely range as well as a point score, because a 25-question test cannot pin a number down exactly and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.

Review every question

When you finish, go back through the whole test: what you picked, what the answer was, and why. Filter to just the ones you missed. There is no paywall on any of it.

Private by construction

No account, no email, no sign-up of any kind. Cortexa contains no networking code at all, so there is nothing to upload and no server to upload it to. Results are stored on your phone and it works completely offline.

Honest about what it is

Cortexa is a well-built reasoning puzzle set for self-assessment and entertainment. It is not a clinical or professionally administered IQ assessment, it has not been standardised on a representative sample, and it is not a diagnosis of anything. It does not claim a percentile, because the app has no reference population that would make one meaningful.
